Dr. Maria Betancourt

Dr. Maria Betancourt is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist specialist from New York, New York with a special interest in General Gynecology. She completed her medical education at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 1986 and her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rutgers Health/New Jersey Medical School from 1986 to 1990. She has over 35 years of experience in general Obstetrics and Gynecology and is Board Certified. She is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.  In 2021 she retired and relocated to Westlake Village, California. Now she enjoys volunteering her services at the Conejo Free Clinic.

"I love volunteering at the Conejo Free Clinic for many reasons, but mostly because it allows me to give back to the community and help the uninsured and underserved population. The patients are so appreciative of the services we provide, and I especially enjoy seeing the faces of non-English speaking patients light up when they realize that I speak Spanish and they are truly able to communicate their medical concerns."

Karen Oakman, JD

Legal Services

Karen Oakman graduated Magna Cum Laude from California Lutheran University with dual degrees in Criminal Justice and Political Science before earning her Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law in 2010. During law school, she interned at the San Diego Public Defender’s Office, the Alternate Public Defender’s Office, and the Law Office of Timothy Scott, while also volunteering with the California Western Community Law Project.

She began her legal career at Grimes & Warwick, a prestigious criminal defense firm in San Diego. In 2014, she returned to Ventura County, expanding her practice to family law with Dion Law Group. In 2020, she co-founded Clunen and Oakman Law.

Active in her community, Ms. Oakman has served on multiple boards and has been a Senior Adjunct Professor at CLU since 2015, teaching Criminal Law and Procedure and Constitutional Law.

"I’m passionate about helping others navigate the often-complex legal questions, especially those who may be facing challenging situations without the resources to afford legal counsel. Volunteering allows me to give back to the community, making legal support more accessible to those who need it most. I always like to say that as an attorney we have a unique ability to change a person's life with some legal advice."
