Conejo Free Clinic - Health & Legal Services

  • She sat down in the chair in my office and quite simply said, “I am done”. “If you cannot help me, I just don’t think I can go on. She had been to see a doctor more than a year ago and was unable to pay for the test’s that were ordered and she became overwhelmed. She never returned to see her doctor.

Through a Patient Assistance program at the Conejo Free Clinic, we were able to get her medications at no cost. In the case of Christine her decision to come to the Conejo Free Clinic was the right one. Christine found the right place at the right time – maybe just in time. She said, “thank you so much, you gave me my life back!” Another woman who was with her said, “Thank you for giving me my Mom back”.

  • Doug a 45 year old insulin dependent diabetic.

Doug came to the Conejo Free clinic seeking assistance to file bankruptcy.

It was during his appointment with the attorney that it was suggested Doug make an appointment to be seen by one of the Conejo Free Clinic doctors. Through the clinic’s assistance Doug has been able to receive his insulin free He speaks with heartfelt gratitude – and often is moved to tears when he says – “The Conejo Free Clinic saved my life – I don’t know what I would do without them”.

  • A woman and her two children come into the clinic looking for food vouchers – shelter and medical care for her daughters. She and her two daughters are living in their car. The children are 9 and 15.

We set up an appointment for her children and herself. She and her children not had any medical attention since their divorce and loosing their insurance and their home.

She was able to get a mammogram and well women exam. Her children received needed vaccines and a complete physical. Months later she sent a card with a small donation – thanking us for helping her and her girls start a new life.

  • Every year for the past 8 years the Conejo Free Clinic in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, Ventrua County, Quest Diagnostics and MDI hold an annual Women’s Health Fair. In the span of 4 hours over 100 women are seen and receive free mammograms – a full panel of lab work and pap testing. Some women who do not have a mammogram done the day of the health fair are given a voucher that will pay for a free mammogram at MDI. Lori was one of those women. Her mammogram came back abnormal and an ultrasound revealed a suspicious tumor. Her biopsy came back positive for breast cancer. A lumpectomy was performed and chemotherapy was started. Lori’s long journey proved a successful recovery – and she now is an advocate for breast cancer awareness at the Conejo Free Clinic and in the community. More about our Women's Health Faire...
